David’s fitness story:
I’ve always loved sports and exercising. I began competitive track and field as a late teenager. Since then I completed my degree in Sport and Exercise Science, my UK Athletics Level 2 Coaching license and my British Weightlifting Level 1 Coaching license, fitting it around my own competitive career.
I represented my university at British Universities Championships in the 100 metres and won my county title over 100 and 200 metres in the UK. I pride myself on my qualifications and ensuring I stay up to date on the latest research.
Where do you draw your inspiration from?
I’m lucky in that many of my close friends are Olympians, including some gold medalists. Seeing them work hard on a daily basis and then perform well on the world’s biggest stage shows me that hard work pays off!
What’s your key to your success?
You have to remember the basics! There’s no magic bullet or fancy exercise that guarantees success. Do the basics regularly, and do them well!
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Listen to your body! It sounds cliche, but if you’re sore pushing hard can lead to injury and set you back far more than missing one session.
Do you have a phrase or motto you live your life by?
No, may be I need one!
Favourite inspirational quote:
It’s not a quote, but anytime I watch Rocky III or Rocky IV, I want to go and train…so maybe “Eye of the Tiger”?? Haha.
